Kids from the North run for kids from the South

The highlight for kids! Once again this year a lively Kids’ Run is to be held in connection with the TUI Marathon.
Following the successful cooperation with UNICEF Majorca in 2009 the joint work is now to be developed even more.
For each child that participates in the race, TUI will donate € 5 to the UNICEF programme "Water for Niger - every drop counts".

There is no charge for taking part!

Water for Niger – every drop counts!

“Water for Niger” is an educational campaign to raise the awareness of the importance of water and its relation to child survival. Water should be respected, valued and recognised as a human right.

54% of the population still do not have access to drinking water and many children, above all little girls, cannot go to school as they have to help collect water. By participating in the UNICEF Kids Run children help other children.

For each registration TUI donates €5 to UNICEF’s Water for Niger - every drop counts! programme in Niger.

You will find further information about this awareness campaign within the UNICEF programme at www.unicef.es and www.gotas.enredate.org.

Once again, in its second year, TUI is supporting the UNICEF project “Water for Niger – every drop counts” aimed at improving the living conditions for many children in the country.

Rachida Lawali, 11 years old, told us:
”I am so happy that we now have water in the school. Everything was so difficult before.
Two years ago our parents had to walk to the well to collect water, but it was never enough for all the 182 schoolchildren: I was always thirsty. Now I can drink so much water until I am no longer thirsty. And the water tap is directly at the entrance to the school.”

A lot has improved in Niger, but the children there still need more water: every fifth child in Niger does not reach his fifth birthday owing to the lack of water. In this case just a few drops of water are the key to saving lives.

“Water for Niger – every drop counts” is an educational campaign that makes people aware of the importance of water for the survival of children.

Children can play active part in this: simply download the drop, write and paint on it what children’s right are, in Niger as well as everywhere else in the world! Together with their parents, children can hand in the drops at the UNICEF stand on the day of the UNICEF Kids Run race.
